We live in a world influenced by various ideas, beliefs, scams, and occasional misinformation. Around the world, governments, organizations, and individuals are addressing climate change, urging people to act to protect the planet and ensure a safer future. Some climate activists have falsely weaponised carbon dioxide (CO2) and committed a tremendous fraud upon the people. Climate change has become the modern-day equivalent of a global religion. Sadly, some Christians and mainline denominations have jumped onto this “Green Planet” bandwagon without checking the facts, drifting away from traditional faith and toward paganism. The late Pope Francis referred to climate change as an “alarming moral crisis” and a “road to death.” Not only do new research studies and the evidence provided by empirical science debunk the man-made climate or global crisis narrative, but also the very Word of God.
During the past decades, many have attempted to instill fear about the end of the world based on pseudoscientific theories. For example, in 1961, the so-called Drake Formula spread fear of the invasion of extraterrestrials. During the Cold War (1947-1991), some quasi-scientists persuaded the world that we were on the brink of a nuclear holocaust. Similarly, today’s environmentalist groups protect and preserve Earth’s ecosystems, wildlife, and natural resources. They argue that humans are responsible for polluting the Earth primarily through industrial and everyday activities such as burning fossil fuels, deforestation, waste generation, unsustainable agriculture, and overconsumption of resources due to population growth. They assert that these activities release contaminants and greenhouse gases (GHGs) that alter the natural environment and lead to global warming.
Is climate change really the biggest, most imminent threat to humanity on Earth?
There is a ‘scientific consensus’ that the Earth has been consistently warming since the start of the Industrial Revolution, that the rate of recent warming is largely unprecedented, and that this warming is mainly the result of a rapid increase in atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) caused by human activities. There is a difference between ‘scientific facts’ and ‘scientific consensus’. Scientific facts are objective, verifiable observations (like water freezing at 0°C or the sun is 93 million miles from the earth), while ‘Scientific consensus’ is the majority judgment and position by the community of experts in a specific discipline to establish a conclusion representing the current understanding in that field, not an absolute principle. History shows that many long-standing scientific consensuses were eventually overturned by new evidence, which is an inherent part of scientific progress. There are new ground-breaking studies emerging to debunk man’s role in the climate change claim and to reveal a general trend in exaggerated global warming.
Empirical scientific facts
Human emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases are not the primary drivers of the global rise in temperatures. Carbon dioxide (CO₂) currently makes up approximately 0.039% of the Earth’s atmosphere. New scientific reassessments of the ‘Anthropogenic CO2-Global Warming Hypothesis’ argue human CO₂ emissions constitute a mere 4% of the annual carbon cycle, which is negligible, and suggest natural forces like solar activity, temperature cycles, and oceanic dynamics are the real explanation for observed trends. There is a direct correlation between solar activity and CO2 levels, where temperature drives CO2 levels—not vice versa. The sun takes center stage in global warming. The Sun’s temperature and energy output fluctuate due to its magnetic activity, primarily in solar cycles linked to sunspots and solar flares. When it gets hotter, it warms the oceans, and the oceans release more CO2 into the atmosphere. The ocean is a massive carbon sink, playing a crucial role in the annual cycle, absorbing CO2 emissions from human activities. Human CO₂ emissions, at 10 GtC/year or 4% of the 230 GtC annual cycle, pale against oceanic (38,000 GtC) and terrestrial reservoirs. According to the US Forest Service, Earth hit record-high greenness in 2020, a peak in vegetation seen in satellite records, driven mainly by consistent growth in northern forests and extra rainfall in the tropics, all linked to atmospheric CO2 and warming. This “global greening” trend, fueled by CO2 fertilization is making even drylands greener. Nature, not humanity, holds the climate wheel.
It is God who destroyed the Earth’s ecosystem.
Today, we are actually living in the version 03 of the ecosystem on this earth. The original ecosystem was the Garden of Eden. In the beginning, God created a perfect universe for man to live in. After the creation, He declared it “very good,” affirming the perfect design and purpose of the world (Genesis 1:31). When Adam sinned, God pronounced a curse upon the earth (Gen 3:17). The world was never the same after the curse, and man had to fight with nature to survive. That’s version 02 of the ecosystem of the earth, the pre-flood era. There was a canopy of water that surrounded the earth, cutting out the ultraviolet rays of the sun, and men lived to be nine hundred plus years old. When the flood came, the water broke up in the canopy above and deluged the whole earth. God has destroyed that ecosystem, and we are now living in that broken and distorted ecosystem. There is no protection above; the earth is subjected to direct UV rays of the sun. The world changed dramatically within 40 days. Men suddenly found it difficult to live for hundreds of years, and their lifespans were reduced to 70 or 80 years. Many species disappeared because of the cataclysmic disaster in the atmosphere, and many will become extinct. This is a direct result of the curse. It’s not man who distorted the Creator’s work; it’s the Creator who did this to His own work.
It is God who sustains and preserves the earth.
The notion that human beings are in charge of the future of this planet and that we have the ability to preserve the planet by taking action to keep it from destruction is a ridiculous concept. It’s God who is in charge of His creation. It was God who set all the boundaries of the earth and established the natural order and seasons (Psalm 74:17). Here is the promise of God that the patterns of this earth will not change: “While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, shall not cease” (Genesis 8:22). God promises that seasons and harvests will continue until Christ returns (Eccl 1:4-7). It is God who is in charge of sustaining and preserving the earth.
Nuclear science states that three fundamental particles—protons, electrons, and neutrons—make up all substances in the universe. The atom’s nucleus contains positively charged protons and uncharged neutrons. The outermost regions of the atom are called electron shells and contain the electrons (negatively charged). Since the electromagnetic force causes repulsion between like charges, protons should repel, breaking apart the nucleus. George Gamow, Professor of Theoretical Physics, says, “We are living in a world in which practically every object is a potential nuclear explosive, without being blown to bits.” If the nucleus is full of positively charged protons, why doesn’t it fly apart? This is something they do not have a specific answer to. According to scientists, there is a “strong force” in a nucleus that fights against the force that splits and holds it together. They call it “nuclear glue.” They do not have any clue what that force is. But we know. It is Colossians 1:17. Jesus Christ is the self-existent, eternal God, who made the universe and sustains it. One day, God will let loose this nuclear glue. The law of repulsion will take over. Scripture describes that day: “the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.” (2 Peter 3:10).
It is God who will destroy the earth.
We are living in a temporary world that’s going to be completely destroyed by fire one day by the creator himself, the same way He destroyed the earth by the flood (2 Peter 3:7). He cursed the first and drowned the second. This time it’s going to be fire. And He will destroy the present heaven and earth in the future, and no government or environmentalist can prevent it from happening. We don’t have to worry about the melting of glaciers and polar ice caps as a result of global warming, for we know the promise to Noah in Genesis 9:11, “Never again will all life be cut off by the waters of a flood; never again will there be a flood to destroy the earth”. And we can’t bring down the Earth by emitting carbon into the atmosphere. There is One who will bring down the planet, and Peter gives us the answer to the future of this planet “the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up (2 Peter 3:10).” The end of the earth is not going to be some man-made holocaust, it is not a result of any natural calamity, it is not a result of some nations using nuclear weapons; it’s going to be a divine intervention by God. God spoke it into existence; He will speak it out of existence.
The earth is a divine gift for man to use.
God has given the earth to mankind (Psalm 115:16) to use it and not to be worshipped. He never intended for mankind to leave it perfect or wild. It was intended to be subdued, stewarded and populated (Genesis 1:28). He gave everything on the earth for the benefit of man and for His glory. He put all the natural resources, precious metals, and fossil fuels at man’s disposal to extract and use them. Our responsibility is to exercise reasonable stewardship and bring the best out of God’s creation for our benefit and His glory. Human poverty is not a product of environmental degradation. It very often is a consequence of negligence or failure to subdue the creation and extract the richest of it. The more you subdue the earth, the more you can live safely. Over the past several decades, mankind has done amazing things to subdue the cursed creation – vaccination against deadly viruses, medical and scientific innovation, electricity, clean water, land development, transportation, energy development, and mass food production are a few examples. The most advanced countries in the world are the countries that subdue the earth. We need more development, more energy, and not less of these.
Climate change brings more benefits to life on Earth.
CO2 is not evil, as these carbon activists claim. It is a miracle that sustains life on Earth. If its level drops below 0.02% then the whole Earth will freeze, plants and vegetation start to die, and it will be catastrophic for human life. The warmer weather brings many blessings instead of destruction. According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC, a UN body tasked with the science of global warming), global warming would warm winters more than summers. There will be more inhabitable land for an increasing population, fewer deaths because of cold, longer growing seasons in northern part of the earth, increase food production because of atmospheric CO2 fertilization, more rain due to enhance evaporation, factories can be built practically anywhere, banking, insurance, medical services, retailing, education, and a wide variety of other services can prosper as well in warm climates as in cold, oil drilling in the northern seas and mining in the mountains become easy, new tourist opportunities in Alaska, northern Canada, and other places at higher latitudes, the northern sea route can be opened for transportation. Global warming does not mean the end of the world, but new challenges for us. We cannot undo the curse and save the planet. Man has to toil to survive all the days of his life (Gen 3:7) until the redemption comes to the whole creation (Rom 8:22-23).
Don’t waste time saving the earth; save yourself.
We must watch out for scare tactics born out of naturalism, atheism, and socialism that could drag us down through paths of confusion and disarray, and even from the faith. Just because a consensus has been reached amongst some doesn’t make it correct. The call of Christians in light of the destruction of the planet is to focus on godliness and holy conduct, keeping the hope of a new heaven and earth at the coming of Christ. We shouldn’t be wasting time running around trying to do things to save the planet. As Christians, we are eagerly waiting for Christ to come soon and destroy this corrupt planet and create a new one where righteousness dwells.
I will be happy if the Earth comes to an end soon. And it will come to an end for sure. The only reason it hasn’t come to an end yet is that God is patient towards unbelievers, and He wants them to turn away from their unbelief and gather under the Lordship of Christ. But there is an end to His patience, and that day is passed; their most mournful cries and screams will be in vain; they will be completely lost and thrown away into misery.
Climate change is not the biggest and most imminent threat to humanity on earth; it is the wickedness of the human heart that suppresses the truth about God and rejects the Savior. We need heart change, not climate change. Don’t waste time saving the Earth, save yourself!
